The Solo city police in Central Java arrested nine Chinese nationals on Friday evening for failing to produce required travel documents.
Those arrested were discovered at a house on Tarunegara Dalam Street II No. 20 in Banyuanyar area, Banjarsari sub-district, Solo, chief of the detective and crime unit at the Solo city police, Comr. Guntur Saputra, said on Saturday.
The nine Chinese nationals are identified as Wu Jian Ling (22), Wu Jing Tang (22), Luo Yan Jun (24), Yang Sion Cen (30), You Pie (32), Tian Min Can (23), Lou Yang (28), Zhou Lian Hua (30), and Yao Wang Qiang (20).
Guntur Saputro said the police were interrogating the Chinese with the help of an interpreter. "They don't speak English," he added.
"For the time being, the foreign nationals are charged with violating the immigration law, since they cannot produce necessary documents while in Indonesia," Guntur said.
The police will seek to establish their motive in staying in Indonesia, he added.
Guntur noted that the police made the arrests after receiving a tip from Banyuanyar Banjarsari residents who were suspicious about the presence of the Chinese nationals in the two-storied house.
The Chinese nationals are believed to have lived in the house for the past week. (antara)
